Just as adult children of narcissistic and abusive parents have been conditioned to distrust themselves and others, our societal practices and certain workplace dynamics condition us to:

 

    • Distrust ourselves and others
    • Fit in to be accepted, robbing our autonomy at work and our freedom to be our TRUE selves
    • Remain stuck in loops of subconscious codependent survival mechanisms
  • Know our self worth only by how useful we are to someone or by our accomplishments and accolades at work
  • Constantly seek the approval of others and the workflow system, which are often devoid of empathy

 

When this happens, we may find ourselves:

 

  • Accepting that feeling unseen, undervalued, disrespected, unappreciated and underpaid is normal 
  • Becoming easy targets of unfair rules and regulations
  • Accepting constant threats to our jobs and professional identity as normal
    • Overthinking to stay safe in an unsafe world
  • Overwhelmed with tasks to the point of not being able to calm our minds and think clearly 
  • Left with no chance to find a creative solution to escape this pattern
  • Suffering from energy drain and frequent illnesses.

 

But we are genuinely caring people inside! And most of us are called to be of service to others. So we put ourselves and our needs on the back burner, and end up nurturing and serving our clients, our families, and our employers, all at the expense of our own sleep, time, energy, passions and health…

 

… till we burn ourselves out giving to everyone else without anyone to help nurture us and fill our cups

 

… and eventually we end up losing our own identity, not knowing who we are any more. 

 

If you have been through narcissistic upbringing or an abusive relationship or other trauma, then you are already subconsciously primed for this. Then it is easy to be dragged into this codependent cycle, making it even harder to break free. And we may not be aware of those emotional scars we carry around within us. 

 

How can we break free from what we are not aware of?

 

THE SOLUTION:

 

The Old Way

 

What do you do when you are suffering in silence? 

 

  • You keep working and hope the problem takes care of itself.
  • Check out self-help books and podcasts to learn new coping techniques.
  • Get a regular massage or take a yoga class.
  • Get a therapist and try to work through the issue.

 

But NOTHING WORKS.

 

Why?

 

Because they don’t address the CORE PROBLEM. 

 

The root of the matter is that you have had to neglect yourself and tend to others, accepting whatever little crumbs of acceptance and love were tossed your way in the process. 

 

When this took place repeatedly over a long period of time, these coping mechanisms became ingrained in your subconscious mind as your new normal. More so if this started from under the age of 7, where our brains are mainly in a  Theta brainwave state, then your subconscious mind recognizes this way of functioning as your truth. 

 

Again, this is not your fault! 

 

These are in fact survival strategies that once kept you safe but are wearing you down from the inside, now begging to be released, so you can finally adopt the healthiest survival strategies aligned with your true values and desires. So that you can live life on your own terms, following your life purpose, and even heal any abusive generational trauma passed down your family line. 

 

By the time you feel burned out, these unhealthy coping mechanisms have probably wreaked havoc on your stress response system, especially the parts of your nervous system and your hormonal pathways involved in fighting stress. 

 

Healing needs stronger strategies than just removing the stressors, to reduce your risk of re-burnout when exposed to similar situations.

 

We need to unravel the programming stored in your mind in the theta state and plant the seeds of healthy patterns. Working on it at the conscious level may take years.

 

So what can we do about it?
